India at the Oscars

|

Needs no introduction but..
Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British drama film directed by Danny Boyle, co-directed by Loveleen Tandan and written by Simon Beaufoy. It is an adaptation of the Boeke Prize-winning and Commonwealth Writers' Prize-nominated novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup.(Wikipedia)

Everyone who watched Slumdog Millionaire loved it.So did I. And now I'm so,so proud!.Just wanted to congratulate every one involved with the movie for their immense success.

..And A.R. Rahman, the maestro and Gulzar for making India proud.

Next to shine at the Oscars was Smile Pinky, a 39 minute documentary made by Emmy-nominated producer Megan Mylan about a six year old girl born with a lip deformity,in Mirzapur(India). This is the story about her struggle for happiness,as she is shunned by society for her lip as a corrective surgery was out of the question (and budget).

Produced in Hindi (with English subtitles), ‘Smile Pinki’ won the Oscar for best short docmuentary.

A huge "Jai Ho" To all of you!

Exam blue(s)!

Lousy attempt at poetry heh!but yea,my exam starts in a week and my head is about to explode! My attention span is so less, and I'm getting easily distracted, thats the last thingthat should happen NOW!

Don't blame me for being pessimistic,or overly sarcastic...This bit of news put me in a vile mood!

There's a horde of upcoming movies that I'd love to watch.Okay, not a horde but 2 lol.(Now this makes my mood milder)

Firstly,Valkyrie staring Tom Cruise, which is a historical thriller based on world war II,and as usual all things WWII(and WWI,or in general hitorical thrillers) drive me crazy :D!

Valkyrie Trailor

...And secondly Delhi6,a Rakesh OmPrakash Mehra( Rang De Basanti fame) film. Rang De Basanti was brilliant and i have probabl watched it a hundred times over and am still not tired of it.One of the biggest reasons being that only once in a while comes a Bollywood film this good. I Calcutta times says not to expect another RDB,but let the film sink in.Ok.I promise to be good :D

Is it just me?

Chasing Harry Winston

|

The event that i look forward to every year MORE than my birthday, more than anything else is The Bookfair.I was there as usual, with my dad, backpack, well on my back, playing the impulsive shopper(when it comes to books).I picked up a dozen, any book lover would drool over *smug look* including two books by Orhan Pamuk,Arvind Adiga,Amitav ghosh and lots more.I also picked up Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger though i didn't like The devil wears prada much, neither am i sucker for diamonds or the colour green. So yea.I finished it in one and a half days, and though I'm not much into chicklit,I have to say this book is a fun read. I have always wondered why the books, which are most hyped (mostly) don't turn out to be that good.take for instance Love Story by Erich segal. Its so cliched! I liked acts of Faith,a lesser known book by him much more.Same for The Da Vinci code.Angels and demons was a whole lot better(not that the da vinci code was bad,it was good no doubt).
Back to Chasing Harry Winston. Its about three best friends Leigh,Adriana and Emmy.

Leigh has a perfect job,a pefect life,a perfect fiance, but she she only happens to like the idea of perfection, not when perfection is handed to her in a platter.

Emmy has recently been dumped,a serial monogamist at heart, her friends advice her to whore herself out, loosen up and just have fun till the crows feet claw their way through the fun. Will she do it? Find out!

Adriana.Hot,Brazilian and rich.A little spoilt, not much bratty, easy to like...by men,her best friends and eventually a magazine editor who gives her a break.

I say again, this is a fun read, nothing intense, but I'm guessing most girls would like it :D In the midst of my Isc preparations, this made good for a bit of light reading.
